Who We Are

Singapore Pools was established by the Singapore government on 23 May 1968 to provide safe and trusted betting to counter illegal gambling. As a not-for-profit organisation, it makes contributions to the Tote Board to fund a wide range of causes in social service, community development, sports, arts, education and health sectors.

 

Since 2004, over $5 billion have been channelled to the Tote Board. In addition, Singapore Pools also contributes about $2 billion annually to the Government in the form of taxes and duties. Its responsible gaming practices have been awarded the highest level of certification (Level 4) by the World Lottery Association’s Responsible Gaming Framework since 2012.

 

Since inception, Singapore Pools’ staff have a long-standing commitment to doing good and giving back to those in need. Staff volunteers support activities held all year round, from helping disadvantaged children, youth-at-risk, underprivileged families, and elderly, to conserving the environment.

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Deputy Director, the individual will assist to manage the Company’s sports betting books, minimizing the company’s risk exposure and maximizing the book’s profit.

What You'll Do

  • Gather latest sporting news & relevant information from FIOs, media sporting news, Internet, watching sporting events both on television and at stadiums, as well as analysing data and statistics.
  • Monitor and study betting trends.
  • Manage betting of assigned sports events in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Gather the latest sporting information and competitors' odds.
  • Maximise collections and GGR within prevailing approved risk parameters.
  • Learn and stay up-to-date with corporate policies, risk limits, operating guidelines and regulatory and statutory limits.
  • Execute processes to manage risk and liabilities of the books offered and react accordingly to any extraordinary market movements in order to achieve balanced books.
  • Use applications and tools during trading operations.
  • Assist in the research for the development of algorithmic trading models and quantitative methods to execute trades.
  • Implement guidelines to ensure Processes and System Integrity are in place.
  • Conduct feasibility study on the proposed enhancements to the trading operations/services and present ideas to management.
  • Assess and profile account customers through their betting history, profitability and behaviour, trade and manage risks in accordance to the profiling guidelines to better manage the betting behaviour of these customers and handle their bets better.
  • Analyse performance of our sports betting product against budgets and targets, work closely with SB Product to review, develop and propose new products to meet consumer demand and attract new customers in order to identify areas for improvement to remain competitive and maximise profits.
  • Support business development plans with quantitative research to inform business development strategies.

Who You Are

  • Tertiary qualifications with a strong background in mathematics or statistics.
  • 2 – 5 years of sports trading and odds compilation experience or some working experience.
  • In-depth knowledge, passionate and up to date for football and other popular sports on offer.
  • Highly numerate and have an astute ability to identify and link relevant information and their implications to the outcomes of sporting events.
  • Knowledge of fixed odds market and the principle involved in pricing and trading sports events.
  • Strong decision-making skill to react promptly in response to changing situations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability experience to provide insights into trading.
  • Ability to use analytical and reporting tools to provide insights into the trading.
  • A strong team player with good inter-personal and communication skills.
  • An organised person with a high level of attention to details and able to multi-task and work under pressure.
  • Able to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends and public holidays.
  • Adept in using the PC and the related betting applications.
  • Knowledge of a foreign language is an advantage.
